First Impression

My name is Brian Gonzalez. I am pursuing a degree in business management. I want to be able to work in the sports industry. I am a sports fan and enjoy being in a sports event live setting even more. I have always been interested in how much organization it takes to bring fans with passion to watch their favorite sports events. I started playing sports when I was a kid. I mostly played soccer but I also played basketball and volleyball. IS101 was an elective for my degree, and I was very excited to take it. I am fully aware we live in a digital age where it is very vital to be beyond comfortable with computer systems. I took 2 computer classes one in middle school and the other in High school and I learned quite a few. I have always enjoyed using computers but want to further my computer skills. My first impressions of IS101 were very positive I have noticed the tasks are mostly about following directions. I am glad I chose to take the class in person as I am a visual learner and feel more comfortable asking for help and seeing the solution. I also found it enjoyable that the first assignment was in kind of scavenger hunt just following directions to get to the end goal. I think I will enjoy the class going forward.

  1. I'm elated that you had a very positive first impression of IS101 Introduction to Information Systems, Brian :-)

"Visual learner", "comfortable asking for help", "seeing the solution" are ingredients for success in IS101 -- any class really!

May you continue to enjoy your experience in IS101-3004, Fall 2024 ^_^

  3. Hey Brian, its so cool that you are pursuing a business based degree, though your degree is a little more specific than my normal Degree of Business. I see that you are into sports, what is your favorite teams and would you like to work for the main brand like the NFL or a specific team like the 49ers? I agree that IS 101 is person is way better than online and way more focused on us learning rather than just cramming the information.

  4. Hi Brian,
It's interesting hearing that your going for a degree in Business Management because of sports because on of the degrees I heavily considered going for was Sports Management. Granted my reasoning was more on the "I want to go to the Super Bowl and I need the cheapest way there", but still I heavily considered it for more reasons other than that one. I don't love all sports, but have always loved watching football and I knew I wanted to be a manager for celebrities, so what is better than a sports manager which combines both of those. Kind of rambling here but moral of the story is I love your degree. I hope you enjoy IS101 and that we both come out of this being more experienced in electronics for the digital era that is upon us.

  6. Hi Brian, while I'm not much of a sports fan myself, I do love the ambiance of attending a live game. I've only gone a couple of times to a few hockey games here in Vegas and the environment never disappoints.

  7. Hi Brian,
I know some people who have gone into business management for sports. If you want to see what goes on behind the scenes to set up a sports event, I can help with that. I was a lead for a company that does event set up and stadium conversions. It is a very diverse industry. Skills you learn from Professor Wu will benefit you on the business side.

  8. Hello Brian!
I also took some computer classes in middle school and high school. I never enjoyed them but looking back at them, they were useful and I find myself using some techniques that I learned from those classes. Good luck in pursuing your degree in business management!

  13. Hi Brian i am also a very big sports fan. I always messed around a bit doing dumb things with computers, now I realize I didn't know much at all about computers. I just knew how to waste my time thinking I'm learning something beneficial for myself.

  18. Hi Brian! Soccer and Volleyball take a lot of endurance! I used to run cross-country, play basketball and run track & field. Being from Chicago, we are big into baseball. Also, I have a degree in Business Administration. It seems like we have a lot of similarities. :) I wish you well on your journey into the sports industry and in completing your degree.
